En el espíritu de la Pastoral de Conjunto e inspirado en las directrices del documento de Aparecida, Raíces y Alas quiere ser una celebración y relanzamiento de una misión común de ministerio Hispano en Estados Unidos. Siguiendo las prioridades de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Estados Unidos, Raíces y Alas profundizará en la realidad del ministerio hispano en las diversas áreas de compromiso según la identidad propia de las organizaciones miembros de NCCHM.
· DIVERSIDAD EN LA IGLESIA, CON ÉNFASIS EN LA PASTORAL HISPANA. En paralelo a la reflexión de modelos que se han dado en la historia de la Iglesia, este taller explorará la naturaleza de la cultura, el desarrollo del concepto del “melting pot” para la primera ola de emigrants, que ha dado paso ahora a una realidad ecclesial intercultural.
· FORMACIÓN
Este taller profundizará en la misión de la Iglesia de proclamar el reino, con énfasis en construcción de la comunidad, una espiritualidad de acompañamiento, y la vocación y formación necesarias para realizar un ministerio eclesial. Se profundizará también en la realidad de la cultura y la formación en el contexto de la familia y la comunidad.
· FAMILIA
El taller trabajará sobre los temas de desarrollo de la persona, la educación en la fe y la transformación de la sociedad así como los desafíos a los que se enfrenta la familia hoy: compromiso, secularism, division de funciones por género, y la tradición cristiana de valores familiares.
o DIGNIDAD HUMANA. INMIGRACIÓN. El taller explorará y profundizará en lo que significa decir, vivir y actuar desde la convicción de que todos los seres humanos son dignos por ser creación de Dios. Ayudará a los participantes a aplicar esta convicción a las áreas de:
o Inmigración
o Defensa de la vida
o Temas de cuidados de salud
o Tráfico humano, etc
· VOCACIONES. Este taller explorará la llamada al servicio en la iglesia. Nuestra llamada bautismal al discipulado, tomando en cuenta la realidad actual de los jóvenes de hoy: los temas de permanencia, compromiso, valores, relativismo, comunidad, y justicia. Estudiará también la experiencia de un encuentro personal con el Cristo vivo y las implicaciones de las promesas bautismales de seguir siempre a Jesucristo desde una variedad de llamadas (matrimonio, vida religiosa, laicado, sacerdocio, compromise dentro de la vida soltera). También se adentrará en las actitudes culturales prevalentes en relación con las vocaciones y en la necesidad de crear una cultura de vocaciones.
· ADOLESCENTES Y JOVENES ADULTOS. El taller explorará temas de formación de fe, liderazgo y entrenamiento para el servicio dentro de la Iglesia.
· EDUCACIÓN ACADÉMICA. Explorará la realidad de la educación formal en la comunidad hispana, considerando los parámetros de la cultura, el ciclo de la pobreza, el impacto social y comunitario de la falta de educación y la urgencia de promover mayores niveles de educación entre los jóvenes hispanos.
Roots & Wings Congress in Chicago - September 23-26, 2010
In the Spirit of Pastoral de Conjunto and inspired by the directives of the Concluding Document from Aparecida, Roots & Wings aspires to be a celebration and re-launching of a common mission for Hispanic ministry in the United States. In line with the priorities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Roots & Wings seeks to explore the reality of Hispanic ministry within the diverse areas of commitment and in accordance with the identity of the organizations that are members of NCCHM.
• DIVERSITY IN THE CHURCH, WITH EMPHASIS IN HISPANIC MINISTRY
In parallel with the reflection models given throughout the history of the Church, this workshop explores the nature of culture
and the development of the “melting pot” concept for the first wave of immigrants, which has given way to the intercultural
ecclesial reality.
• FORMATION
This workshop explores the mission of the Church to proclaim the kingdom
with an emphasis on community building, the spirituality of accompaniment, and the vocation and formation necessary to fulfill an ecclesial ministry. We will also explore the reality of culture and formation within the context of
family and community.
• FAMILY
This workshop will concentrate on the subjects of developing the person, education in the faith, transformation of the society, and the challenges faced by today’s families: commitment, secularism, division of tasks by genders, and the Christian tradition of family values.

• HUMAN DIGNITY/IMMIGRATION
This workshop explores what it means to speak, live, and act based on the conviction that all human beings are dignified because they are all created by God. It seeks to help participants apply this conviction in the areas of:
• Immigration
• Defense of life
• Healthcare issues
• Human trafficking, etc.
• VOCATIONS
This workshop explores the calling to serve in the church. Our baptismal calling to discipleship, taking into account the reality of today’s youth: the subject of permanence, commitment, values, relativism, community and justice.
It will also examine the experience of a personal encounter with the living Christ and implications of the baptismal promises to always follow Jesus Christ from a variety of callings (marriage, religious life, laity, priesthood, commitment from the single life). It will also study the prevalent cultural attitudes in relation to vocations and the need to create a vocation culture.
• ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS
This workshop explores the subject of faith formation, leadership and training to serve in the Church.
• ACADEMIC EDUCATION
Here we will explore the realities of formal education within the Hispanic community, taking into consideration the parameters of culture, the cycle of poverty, the social and community impact resulting from the lack of education, and the urgency to promote higher educational levels among Hispanic youth.
