Simposio nacional sobre el presente y el futuro del ministerio hispano católico en los Estados Unidos de América / National Symposium on the Present and Future of Catholic Hispanic Ministry in the United States

Más de sesenta líderes, académicos y agentes de pastoral católicos de todo el país se reunieron para dialogar acerca del presente y el futuro del ministerio hispano católico en los Estados Unidos. Los asistentes participaron en un proceso de preparación de un año, durante el cual se escribieron documentos que sirvieron como base sobre las que llevar a cabo el diálogo del simposio.

El simposio trató 7 áreas clave relacionadas al ministerio hispano católico en los Estados Unidos:

• El catolicismo estadounidense
• Teología
• Evangelización y formación en la fe
• Liturgia y espiritualidad
• Jóvenes y jóvenes adultos
• Justicia social
• Formación de líderes

5 razones por las cuales este simposio significó una importante contribución a la reflexión contemporánea en torno al catolicismo de los Estados Unidos de América:

• Reafirmó el potencial que tienen los católicos hispanos de transformar el presente y el futuro de la experiencia católica estadounidense.
• Continuó la reflexión que durante décadas se ha llevado a cabo en torno al catolicismo hispano, especialmente a través del trabajo que culminó con los Encuentros nacionales, el Plan Pastoral Nacional para el Ministerio Hispano y otros documentos emitidos por los obispos de Estados Unidos.
• Propuso una visión que ayudará a los católicos estadounidenses, hispanos y no hispanos, a planificar mejor la pastoral hoy y en el futuro inmediato.
• Lanzó un llamamiento a renovar cómo se capacita a los católicos latinos a que participen más activamente y a todos los niveles en las organizaciones, instituciones y programas nacionales, tanto en la Iglesia como en el mundo académico y la sociedad.
• Ofreció recomendaciones prácticas para cómo avanzar en el diálogo sobre el ministerio hispano.

¿Cómo puede tu organización o institución participar en la siguiente fase tras el simposio?

• Años 2010 y 2011: Organiza por lo menos una reunión anual para conversar acerca de los documentos y conclusiones que emergieron durante el simposio nacional acerca del presente y el futuro del ministerio hispano católico en los Estados Unidos.
• Incluye el lema “Presente y futuro del ministerio hispano católico en los Estados Unidos” en la reunión anual de tu organización o en cualquier otra donde se vaya a tratar el tema de la pastoral.
• Participa en conversaciones y diálogos en torno a este tema con líderes hispanos y no hispanos tanto de la Iglesia como del mundo académico. 
• Habla a los demás acerca de este tema y del diálogo que se está llevando a cabo en torno al mismo.
• Varias instituciones académicas y organizaciones de la Iglesia ya están planificando cómo continuar este diálogo. Si tu organización está interesada en participar activamente en esta conversación, por favor, ponte en contacto con los organizadores de este simposio para recibir más información.

Las diócesis, parroquias, instituciones académicas y organizaciones que promueven el ministerio hispano en la Iglesia están todas invitadas a organizar reuniones durante las que dialogar acerca de los documentos y conclusiones que surgieron a raíz de este simposio.

Over sixty church leaders, scholars, and practitioners from around the country gathered to discuss the present and future of Catholic Hispanic Ministry in the United States. The participants were involved in a year-long process of preparation in which study documents were written and served as the basis for conversation during the symposium.

The symposium addressed 7 key areas related to Catholic Hispanic Ministry in the United States:

• U.S. Catholicism
•  Theology
• Evangelization and Faith Formation
• Liturgy and Spirituality
• Youth and Young Adults
• Social Justice
• Leadership Formation

5 reasons why this symposium was an important contribution to contemporary reflection on U.S. Catholicism:

• It affirmed the potential of Hispanic Catholics to shape the present and future of the U.S. Catholic experience;
• It built on decades of reflection about Hispanic Catholicism, particularly on the work that led to the National Encuentros, the National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry, and documents issued by the U.S. Catholic bishops;  
• It proposed a vision that will assist U.S. Catholics, Hispanic and non-Hispanic, to better plan ministry now and in the immediate future;
• It called for renewed ways to empower Hispanic Catholics to be more actively involved in national organizations, offices and programs at all levels in the Church, the academy and society; and,
• It offered practical recommendations to move the conversation about Hispanic Ministry forward.

How can your organization/institution be part of the Post-symposium phase?

• Years 2010 and 2011: Plan at least one annual meeting to discuss the documents and conclusions from the national symposium on the present and future of Catholic Hispanic Ministry in the United States.
• Make the theme “Present and Future of Catholic Hispanic Ministry in the United States” part of your annual membership meeting or any other event where conversations about ministry in the Church take place.
• Engage in this conversation with Hispanic and non-Hispanic leaders in the Church and the Academy.
• Share the word about this important conversation.
• A number of academic institutions and ecclesial organizations are already planning to continue the conversation. If your organization is interested in being part of this conversation and in becoming an active contributor, please contact the organizers of the symposium for further information.

Dioceses, parishes, academic institutions and organizations advocating for Hispanic Ministry in the Catholic Church are invited to host leadership meetings to discuss the documents and conclusions that have emerged from the symposium.
